BREAKING! Bukayo Saka agrees five-year contract with Arsenal with a 50% pay rise
According to The Guardian, Saka is close to signing a new deal with Arsenal that would run until 2031. His current contract, signed in May 2023, is due to expire in 2027. Earlier in 2025, ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid, Saka stated that he was in “no rush” to agree on a new contract.
Under the proposed agreement, Saka is expected to receive a 50 percent salary increase, rising from £200,000 per week to £300,000. That would make him the highest-paid player in the squad, surpassing Kai Havertz, who currently earns £280,000 per week following his move from Chelsea in 2023. The club’s highest salary on record remains Mesut Özil’s £350,000 per week contract, signed in 2018.
In September 2025, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta publicly expressed his desire to see Saka commit his long-term future to the club. “I would love that,” Arteta said. “From everything that I know, again he’s a player that is extremely happy and proud to be [here] and to have the role that he has in the football club. He’s been developing in a natural way like they always do. Everyone knows how important Bukayo is for us so hopefully we can do it.”
Saka joined Arsenal at the age of seven and spent a decade in the club’s academy before making his senior debut in 2018. Initially deployed as a left-back in several matches, he has established himself as Arsenal’s first-choice right winger since Arteta took charge in 2019. Over the years, Saka has become one of the club’s standout players and was appointed vice-captain, regularly wearing the armband in the absence of Martin Ødegaard.
Statistically, Saka’s output this season has been modest, with four goals and three assists from 19 Premier League appearances. Nevertheless, his overall influence remains significant, particularly through his dribbling and attacking presence. Arteta has also managed his playing time carefully following a hamstring injury sustained in August.
Arsenal currently sit top of both the Premier League and their Champions League group. Holding a six-point lead over Manchester City, they are considered strong favourites for the league title after finishing second for three consecutive seasons. Their upcoming fixtures include Portsmouth in the FA Cup (January 11), Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-finals (January 15), Nottingham Forest in the Premier League (January 18) and Inter Milan in the Champions League (January 21).
