Jürgen Klopp suddenly emerges as a candidate to replace Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid
This season, both Liverpool and Real Madrid have struggled after strong starts. Liverpool, after winning their first five Premier League matches, suffered consecutive defeats and now sit 10th in the table. As for Madrid, they have managed only two wins in their last eight games, with the latest being a 1-2 defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League.
With a disappointing run of results, fans are urging their clubs to look for new coaches. Coincidentally, both teams are linked with the same candidate: Jürgen Klopp, the former Liverpool manager who now works for Red Bull as a football director. However, Liverpool’s chances appear slim, as Klopp left the club last year due to “tiredness.”
Meanwhile, Madrid fans believe Klopp could replace Alonso if president Florentino Pérez decides to sack him. The 58-year-old manager has not spoken about the rumours yet, but many signs suggest he is open to joining Madrid.
Earlier this year, reports from Brazil revealed that Klopp was not satisfied with his role at Red Bull and would leave only for two specific jobs: Real Madrid or the Brazil national team.
The former Liverpool manager said on the Diary of a CEO podcast: “I said I will never coach a different team in England. So that means if I return, it’s Liverpool. So yeah, theoretically it’s possible. I love what I do right now, I don’t miss coaching. I don’t. I mean, I do coach - just differently, not players. And I don’t miss it.” Klopp also added that he’s not that old and could change his mind in the next few years, but at the moment he does not plan to return to coaching.
As for Xabi Alonso, the coach is still being backed by Madrid players and is not expected to leave his job soon. “The team is united, the team is convinced,” Alonso said. “Everyone is convinced we can win tomorrow. Nobody has doubts. But for that, we have to play with good rhythm, intensity, and compete.”
