Messi’s sister suffers car accident, breaks 2 vertebrae and postpones wedding with Inter Miami coach
The incident occurred while Maria Sol was driving her SUV in Miami, shortly before her planned return to Argentina. According to reports, the 31-year-old designer suffered a sudden "medical episode" behind the wheel, causing her to lose control of the vehicle. The resulting crash was leaving her SUV heavily damaged and Maria Sol with significant physical trauma.
Medical assessments confirmed she suffered 2 fractured vertebrae, a fractured heel, and a broken wrist, along with several severe burns. While the injuries are extensive, doctors have confirmed she is now out of immediate danger. Her mother, Celia Cuccittini, recently revealed that Maria has been moved back to Rosario, Argentina, to begin a long and difficult rehabilitation process.
This tragic turn of events has forced the family to postpone Maria Sol’s wedding to Julián "Tuli" Arellano. The ceremony was set to take place on January 3, 2026, in their hometown of Rosario.
Julián Arellano is far from a stranger to the Messi inner circle. The couple shares a long-standing relationship rooted in their childhood, as they both grew up in the same La Bajada neighborhood in Rosario. Their bond is so strong that Julian was an esteemed guest at Lionel’s wedding years ago.
Professionally, Julian’s life is also intertwined with the football legend. He currently serves as the head coach for the Inter Miami U19 team, where he has already found success by winning the UPSL South Florida title.
Meanwhile, Messi had just concluded a historic season with Inter Miami, leading the club to the MLS Cup title. In a display of unmatched brilliance, the 38-year-old legend featured in 35 matches across the season, contributing to a staggering 59 goals. Specifically, in MLS play, he scored 35 goals and provided numerous assists in just 33 appearances.
This news is a devastating blow to the Messi family. Instead of celebrating a new chapter in Maria Sol’s life, the family is now gathered at her bedside in Rosario, focused entirely on her recovery.
