MLS chief urges Mohamed Salah to move to America, says he should talk to Messi
Salah’s future remains a major talking point, as Liverpool have yet to make any official statement about their 33-year-old legend. Recent rumours have heavily linked him with Saudi clubs, who are considered the frontrunners if Salah decides to leave Anfield.
Surprisingly, MLS clubs are also showing interest. Daily Mail reported that San Diego and Chicago Fire are monitoring Salah’s situation. Responding to the speculation, Garber said: “Obviously, if Salah ever decides to come to Major League Soccer, we’d welcome him with open arms. I’d say he should reach out to Leo (Messi) and Thomas Müller and see how happy they’ve been, how successful they’ve been, and how much they’ve embraced being in MLS.”
Garber also stressed that Salah’s contract with Liverpool must be respected. Signed in April this year, the deal keeps Salah at the club until 2027 with a salary of £400,000 per week. Any MLS team interested in signing him would have to navigate the league’s salary cap and designated player rules. Still, if a club can make it work, Salah would be an elite addition, as he continues to perform at a top level.
As of today, there has been no update on the relationship between Salah and coach Arne Slot, which Salah previously described as “broken.” Some sources claim the two are expected to hold talks within 48 hours to resolve their issues, though nothing suggests progress has been made. Other reports indicate the club is backing Slot, meaning Salah may need to apologise to his manager.
Liverpool’s next match is on Saturday, when they face Brighton at 10 PM (GMT+7). This will also be Salah’s final game before he departs for AFCON, taking place from December 21 to January 18. If the situation between Salah and Slot cannot be resolved, there is a high chance the Egyptian star could leave during the upcoming transfer window, with several teams ready to make an offer.
At the moment, interest from Arab clubs includes Al Hilal, Al Qadsiah, and NEOM, who are reportedly willing to submit another £150 million bid — similar to Al-Ittihad’s offer in 2023. Liverpool rejected that offer, and Salah stayed to help the club win another Premier League title, finishing as both top scorer and top assister.
