PSG intend to sign Antonio Rudiger from Real Madrid
According to Defensa Central, PSG are closely monitoring Rüdiger’s situation at Real Madrid, where his contract is set to expire in the summer of 2026. The reigning treble winners are reportedly seeking experienced defenders to strengthen their back line and rotate with Willian Pacho and Marquinhos, viewing Rüdiger as an ideal free-transfer opportunity.
PSG are not alone in the race. Galatasaray are also said to be tracking the 32-year-old’s contract status. In response, PSG’s ownership is reportedly prepared to make a strong effort to secure Rüdiger’s signature, with rumours suggesting the French club could offer a lucrative long-term deal that would keep him at the club until the end of his career. Some reports even describe PSG’s approach as a “blank cheque” offer.
However, concerns remain over Rüdiger’s physical condition. The centre-back will turn 33 in March, and recent injury issues have raised questions about his long-term durability. He recently underwent surgery to repair a partial tear of the lateral meniscus in his left knee, an issue that has inevitably affected his performances.
Real Madrid are aware that time is running out but face a difficult decision. While Rüdiger’s experience and leadership are highly valued, his age and injury history could make the club hesitant to offer a contract extension.
Additional reports from ESPN suggest that Madrid are already preparing for a future without both Rüdiger and David Alaba. The Austrian defender, who will turn 34 next year, has struggled for consistent playing time since joining the club in 2021. His contract also expires in the summer of 2026, forcing Madrid to consider new options at centre-back. Names such as Jérémy Jacquet and Nico Schlotterbeck have reportedly been discussed as potential future reinforcements to partner either Dean Huijsen or Raúl Asensio.
Rüdiger joined Real Madrid in 2022 and has since made 101 appearances, scoring two goals. During his three seasons at the club, he has collected an impressive list of honours, including one La Liga title (2023/24), one Copa del Rey (2022/23), one Spanish Super Cup (2024), two Champions League titles (2022, 2024), two UEFA Super Cups (2022, 2024), one Club World Cup (2022), and one Intercontinental Cup (2024).
At present, Real Madrid are navigating a challenging period under new head coach Xabi Alonso. The club finished 2025 second in La Liga, four points behind rivals Barcelona. A similar situation has unfolded in the Champions League, where Madrid currently sit seventh in the standings and risk dropping out of the top eight. Their final two Swiss-stage fixtures are against Monaco on 21 January and Benfica on 29 January.
